Becoming fit in today’s ever-changing world requires exercising the mind, the body and the spirit and teaching the three to work in perfect harmony for a more balanced lifestyle in your walk with Christ.

The “Head, Heart and Hands” tour is predicated to align the three in the way of God. Motivational speakers Darrin Henson, Dwayne Bess and Lyle Johnson are on a journey to pass their knowledge of success and faith onto the world through the teachings of God.

Henson, who is known for his earlier roles as Lem Van Adams on the hit Showtime series “Soul Food” and Grant from the 2007 dance film drama “Stomp the Yard,” brings his love of faith and dance to the stages of the “Head, Heart and Hands” tour. Henson’s incomparable choreography skills have influenced artists such as Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears and ‘N Sync, as well as his own video, “Dance Grooves,” which has sold approximately three million copies worldwide and continues to inspire future artists.

Henson has worked with actors like Dennis Quaid, Ginuwine, Clifton Powell and Shanti Lowry. Now he builds new relationships as he graces the stages with author, national keynote speaker and growth coach Dwayne T. Bess.

Bess’s words have circulated and transpired the minds of some of the most influential people in the world, earning him Essence Magazine’s Do Right Man of the Year Award and The White House Good Samaritan Award.

Bess has been honored with the likes of such people as Kweisi MFume, Reggie Bush, Dennis Haysbert, Tyrese Gibson, Jamie Fox, Hip-Hop/R&B Mogul Common and actor/director Tyler Perry. His book “The Perpetual Hand” has influenced as actors like Alfonso Ribeiro who played Carlton on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and Verne Troyer, who is better known for his role as Mini-Me in the Austin Powers movies.

Organizations such as Calvary Church, Monsanto and The United States Pentagon have hired Bess to help boost productivity and positive influence throughout the workplace. He has appeared and contributed on both ABC and FOX News and speaks on topics such as: Redefining Selflessness, How to Be a Person of Influence and When the Economy Slows, Gods Kingdom Doesn’t.

Joining Henson and Bess on the “Head, Heart and Hands” tour is Mid-West native Lyle Johnson who is known as one of the most credible fitness and exercise specialists in the country. For many years, Johnson’s seminars and training programs have helped hundreds of people reach their fitness and weight loss goals. He is the CEO of St. Louis-based MVP Fitness and is the author of best-seller “Get Fit 4 Christ.”

Johnson has consulted several Top 10 companies like The United States Army, Nike, The Ozzie Smith Foundation and the St. Louis Cardinals Organization. His knowledge on health and wellness has helped people reclaim their energy, improve strength, and rebuild both the mental and physical confidence so many seek. With a missio0n to reach as many people as possible and helping them live healthier and abundant lives, Johnson said he believes it is important for people to live the way God has intended them to, balanced and humble.

“Once we control our mind, once we have selflessness and purity in our hearts, and once our actions speak as scripture reads…we will be blessed with abundance,” Bess says. “ The equation to our destiny is simple: aligning your head with your heart plus aligning your hands equals promotion in life.”

Bess says the fundamental basis of the “Head, Heart and Hands” tour is helping people find balance and harmony within their own lives by reaching out to others and keeping God 1st.

Selfless Friend,

I am excited to be serving as Bess for Energy team captain for the United Mitochondrial Disease
Foundation’s ENERGY FOR LIFE WALK. Please mark April 14th on your calendars! That is when the walk will take place at Tower Grove Park.
Every 30 minutes, a child will be born who will develop mitochondrial disease by the age of 10.
Mitochondrial disease occurs when there is a defect in the body’s ‘powerhouses’. The mitochondria fail
to produce enough energy. That results in organ systems failing. Imagine a major city with half of its
power plants shut down. The same thing happens in the affected person’s body. The brain may be
impaired. They may lose vision or hearing. The heart may be weakened, and they may have eating and
digestive issues. The symptoms range from mild to severe for each affected person. The disease is fatal
and there is no cure.

Decluttering your mind starts with your intent – you need to WANT to make changes first before you can address the imbalance. Here is how you do this:

1. Stop putting things off- By putting things off you only make matters worse and add to the stress levels you probably already experience. I have found that by addressing the biggest task of my working day first I generally get a lot more done.

2. Stop spreading yourself too thin-Do you really have to be a member of all the social networks considered hip today? Try to reduce the number of platforms, memberships, networks you join and enjoy more mental freedom as a result. Do only those you have passion for.

3. Stop the multiple distractions-Most of us are exposed to a number of daily distractions that stop us from doing what we NEED to do. Close your email inbox, log out of Skype, switch off your mobile phone and just concentrate on the task you do right now. You will be surprised how much more you get done – without the stress – by limiting distractions.

4. Stop and breath-How often do you stop breathing when you are in a stressful situation? Learn to breathe deeply into your stomach, do yoga, mediate or square breathing. You will be rejuvenated and ready to tackle the most complex task afterwards.

5. Stop procrastinating-Ask yourself why you have been putting it off. What can you tackle and what can you let go of? When you’re clear on what you definitely has to be done, make a plan and get to it.

6. Stop worrying-There is nothing constructive about worrying – it won’t help you avoid the outcome you’re worrying about and it’ll destroy your ability to enjoy the present.

7. Stop the anger and forgive-When somebody hurts you badly, it’s a normal response to feel anger, and to not want to forgive. Maybe the other person doesn’t deserve forgiveness, but don’t you deserve to move on and leave the pain behind?

8. Stop saying yes-Say no to people and activities that drag you down. Instead, surround yourself with people who uplift you and do things that make you feel great!

Decluttering your mind is easy with the right conviction and intent. By doing so you will regain your inner peace, work better and experience more satisfying relationships

Being a better boy friend is a lot like being good at your job. It takes effort, training and attentiveness to your craft. You can’t expect everything to come natural should never take things for granted. Every relationship is different, and there is no “one approach, does is all” technique. As men we must look at our relationships as a place we go to give not a place we go to receive. This is something that every person should embrace which is outlined in my book, The Perpetual Hand co-authored by Gina Montgomery. The following tips are ways to create positive habits focusing on the Mind, Mouth, Heart and Hands to assist us at being better boyfriends.

Mind- Let her know you are thinking about her! When making small talk with her, use your smart phone to remind you one week from the conversation to ask her about the important issue. This will help build your recall and show that you listen to her. The result, more watching basketball games for you because she does not have to repeat herself a million times from your lack of listening the first time. Also, you start health, meaningful and timely communication with your partner.

Mouth- Speak positive affirmation into her life. Don’t assume she knows how you feel. Every time a positive thought enters your mind about her, share it! Tell her she is adorable, wonderful even how grateful you are to be with her. Words are powerful and we can create a positive environment with our words alone. Many religions used words to create their existence. “Let there be lights!” So, allow words to work for you

Heart- Do things that come from the heart. Perhaps, proactively cancel a night with the fellas to spend time with her, make her a CD of her favorite artist just because, write her a hand written letter of thanks, spontaneously stop her in public kiss her and tell her she is beautiful. Timing is key, meaning not on a special day!

Hands- You should always keep or create a bucket list of random things you and your girlfriend would like to experience in order to keep the relationship spicy and fresh. Try, a Salsa class, a cooking class, art class, learn guitar together, rock climbing course, anything with a defined time line and objective for a since of dual accomplishment together.

These tips are not fool proof. However, they build habits to enhance your relationship and stem from ways on how to be a better person. All relationships should be based on our ability to be selfless and show gratitude not what we can get out of them. The success of these tips, are determined by how consistent we apply them over time. Goodluck!

An Excerpt from Bess’s Journal Series, “Proclivity to Expand Part Two”

Deep in the dark office of the company, hidden behind walls of anger, sits the “Bad Manager.” Most of us have had at least one. These self-loathing, power hungry pockets lounge behind their desks pretending to be productive when, in fact, all they are doing is delegating their responsibility. They show little or no sympathy towards their employees and the only thing they truly “manage” is ruining your day. Instead of dwelling on the negative aspects, however, the question becomes, “How do we cope with these self-absorbed monsters?” “What do we do when all options seem lost?” and “When is enough, enough?”

Bad managers are similar to a bad date, meaning that although you search for a way out or an excuse to bail, you stick it through until you can politely drive the date home and say good bye. Many people are pre-programmed to think that if they stick something out long enough, there will be a grand reward at the end. Unfortunately, this is not true in most situations. Honestly, the best advice anyone could give on how to deal with a bad manager is to just leave and find something else.

For the sake of this journal, though, I will assume that you are either unwilling or unable to leave. Maybe you are looking for something new and have to endure a bad manager until you have found it, or perhaps your family is heavily dependent on you and your options are limited. In any circumstance, make it a point to at least explore your options once a month. Avoid hiding behind the deceptive safety of a merely acceptable job, when what you really need is something more. However, before making any choices, a thorough review of your current status is necessary. So, where do you begin?
